Homeward bound #nn09: Netroots Nation from a Swedish perspective

I'll do this post in english (might be some problems with the spelling :-), since I've met so many wonderful persons that maybe a couple of you would like to read it. And yes, I found one more swede at Netroots Nation, Martin Gelin, New York Correspondent, Svenska Dagbladet.

So, I've been spending my last day here in Pittsburgh walking through the neighbourhoods of Southside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland. Well over a four hour walk. Besides adding more colour to my already colourful image of Pittsburgh I had time to reflect Netroots Nation.

First of all it was a great conference with a lot of interesting speakers, panels, bloggers, it's been great to meet all the people, like Jerome Armstrong and Markos Moulitsas that I've heard about through Jane Hamsher, John Aravosis and of course the great and friendly people at OpenLeft.

Anyway, here are some short notes:

1. It's obvious that the labour movement are reaching out to the progressive bloggers on a broader scale than the Swedish labour movement does back home. There's work to be done here!!

2. Our netroots-network in Sweden can be more "action" oriented than it is today. Swedish progressive bloggers are being more "debate" oriented, wich is not bad at all but perhaps some influx of the other could twist up things a bit. If we want to have "change" in Sweden we're not going to get it for free, we need to be more focused, helping each other more. I'll save my detailed tips for later when we'll have a netroots meet up. But I can reveal that the manual provided by Democracy for America will be most helpful!

3. Our center-left think-tanks definitly can work more often with fact-checking and share content through blogger outreach operations. Here's more work to be done.

4. It' funny, but Sweden was mentioned quite often during the conference as an exampel for american progressives to look at when it comes to healthcare, labour organzation, collective bargains etc. However, I was quick to mention that those thing have not come by themselves, and will not be around without a fight. Everyday the positive parts of our welfare should be safegarded while the parts that doesn't work should be fixed end becom more efficient.

Finally some pictures from Pittsburgh:

Rest of this post will be in Swedish.
